Calculation of the CG for Model Aircraft

 CG Spreadsheet - Excel

The attached Excel template provides automatic calculation of the CG of model aircraft by weighing at the landing gear axles and measuring the distance to them from a datum line (front of the spinner. Other calculations are also possible, as shown.

Load the attached file on your Excel program.

 To find the Present CG:

1.Set up the fully assembled model on blocks and a scale so the axial line is horizontal.

 2. Measure and record in the appropriate space on the schedule the distance fron the spinner to the axels.

 3. Measure and record in the appropriate space on the scedule the weights on each axle.

 3. The Distance from the spinner to the Present CG (Dcgp) will appear in the answer box.

 4. The Total Weight of the model will appear in the answer box.

To find the Added Weight (Wa) necessary to move the Present CG to a New Desired CG Distance (Dcgn):

1.Record in the schedule the New Desired CG Distance (Dcgn) and the Distance to the Added Weight (Da).

 2. The Weight to be added and the New Total Weight will appear in the answer boxes.

To find the Distance from the spinner to Move the Battery (Dbn) for a New Desired CG (Dcgn):

1.Record the Weight of the Battery (Wb) and the New Desired CG Distance (Dcgn) in the schedule.

2.The Distance from the spinner to the battery (Dbn) will appear in the answer box.
